Frequently Asked Questions

Why lash extensions?

Lash extensions dramatically enhance your look without having to apply mascara daily. The look is flawless with no clumps or runny mascara. The convenience of them is the number one reason my clients keep coming back. You wake up ready to go every morning with little effort! Or you can take your makeup look to the next level without strip lashes. Lash extensions are super comfortable to wear and you should not even feel them.

Do lash extensions hurt my natural lashes?

When applied correctly, lash extensions do no harm to your natural lashes. The appropriate length and weight of the extension will depend on the state of your natural lashes. Isolation is key in making sure your own lashes can continue to grow and shed naturally with the extensions.

A latex and formaldehyde free adhesive is used to adhere the extension to the base of your natural lash, as close to the lash line as possible, but not touching the skin. A good way to tell if you have individual eyelash extensions is being able to brush through them effortlessly.

Does it hurt?

The process is generally pain-free. It is actually a very relaxing procedure. There are exceptions as the adhesive has fumes that can make your eyes water and sting a little. But it is important to keep your eyes closed for this reason. Take a lash nap and wake up to beautiful lashes.

Once You’re Ready, Here is What You Need to Know

How long is the process?

Expect your first visit to take about 1.5-2 hours. This will include a lash consultation to determine your desired look. But remember, everyone is different in the number of natural lashes they have. A full set extends each lashable lash possible, so if you have lots of lashes, expect the process to take longer than someone who has fewer lashes. If you are coming back for a fill-in, this appointment can take anywhere from 45min-1.5 hours.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Come to your appointment with clean lashes. The less time used to clean your lashes means more time to apply extensions. You also want to plan to shower and workout before your appointment. It is advised to not shower or workout until 24 hours after lash extensions. This allows the adhesive to completely cure for the best retention possible.

What is the difference between classic, hybrid, and volume?

Lashes come in different lengths, thickness, and curls. Classic lashes are the most popular as they are one extension on one natural lash. This will give your lashes more length and thickness. Volume lashes use a much lighter weight than classics, therefore it is safe to apply more than 1 of them on an individual natural lash.

Volume lashes are much softer and give you more of the fluff look. Volume lashes are good for people with very thin and sparse lashes. This will help you achieve more fullness than classics. But because each lash fan is handmade, volume lashes will take more time than classic lashes. If you want the best of both worlds, a hybrid set mixes classic and volume lashes!

What kind of styles are there?

Each set is totally customizable from a more natural, everyday look to a dramatic cat-eye. Lash extensions come in all sizes, thickness and curls. A free consultation before your appointment ensures you leave with the look you desire. Keep in mind that these are lash extensions. They can only enhance the lashes you already have. You may not be able to achieve the same exact look as someone who has different lashes. But I can promise you will leave with longer, thicker lashes than what you came in with!

Care After Your New Lashes Have Been Applied

Can I wear mascara or eyeliner?

Mascara is not suggested with lash extensions and you won’t need it! But if you want to wear it, you can use a water-based mascara. Absolutely no waterproof mascara, as this will break down the adhesive and affect retention. You’re free to use eye makeup, but make sure to clean your lashes every night. Clean lashes equal happy lashes.

What can I use to clean my lashes?

I keep Bella lash makeup and lash cleanser available at the salon for purchase. This cleanser was made specifically for lash extensions to safely clean and nourish your lashes. An alternative is baby shampoo diluted with water. Use a lint-free wipe or makeup brush to foam and cleanse your extensions. Do not use cotton or q-tips to clean your extensions. Blot dry with a towel, air dry and brush through.

How long do they last?

Most people come back every 2-3 weeks for a fill in. This will keep your lashes full and beautiful. The adhesive has a 6-8 week hold time. But due to your natural lash cycle, each lash will shed when it’s ready. The average person sheds about 2-3 natural lashes each eye, every day.

How do I care for my lashes?

Before you leave, you are given an aftercare card with instructions on how to care for your extensions. Avoiding oil products, keeping your lashes clean, and brushing them daily will ensure your extensions last.

Can I remove my lash extensions?

Never pull or pick at your lashes. If you need your lashes removed, please come in to get them safely removed.

What if I’m allergic?

While it does not happen often, you can develop an allergy to the lash adhesive. Your eyelids can become red and irritated for 2-3 days after application. If this becomes the case, please contact me right away so we can find an alternative (a sensitive adhesive will not have the same longevity as our strongest adhesive) or get them safely removed.
